Practical guidance for dealerships posting at volume, plus notes on what we ship.
A recon budget cap is a wholesale decision you write before the first parts order. Learn when a used unit is not worth fixing, how to set the cap by segment, and how to stop 'just one more repair' from erasing the buy.
If every car is 'in recon' for two weeks, you do not have a shop problem. You have an unlocated bottleneck. Here is how to find it with a queue count, a date map, and a weekly constraint meeting.
Recon does not start when the car hits the shop. Map the full timeline from purchase to front line, assign owners, and find the days you are paying for with no chance of a retail sale.
Write auction walk-away numbers before you raise a bid. A pre-sale worksheet for landed cost, recon risk, and the point where a cheap hammer price becomes an expensive car.
Your sold history is a buy list if you read it that way. Learn how to pull retail solds, score them by turn and recon, and turn the pattern into next week's auction and trade decisions.
A used inventory mix plan by vehicle segment stops you from stacking trucks when crossovers are what you sell. Build target counts, buy rules, and a weekly rebalance from your own sold history.
Tie your used car acquisition budget to actual sales pace, not last month's auction enthusiasm. A worksheet, pacing rules, and guardrails for used-car managers who buy faster than they sell.
Most dealership software fails in week two when only the GM is logged in. Here is how to roll out new software to your dealership team with owners, a short training path, and a go-live that sticks.
Independent dealers often 'know the numbers' without sitting with them. Run a quarterly business review that covers inventory, people, cash, and Marketplace operations in one working session.
